Senator Armstrong Profile

Since 1985, Senator Gib Armstrong has worked hard for the constituents of the 13th Senatorial District, which includes portions of Lancaster and York Counties.

Closely reflecting the views and traditions of the area he serves, Armstrong is well regarded for his fiscal and social conservatism.  As Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Senator is committed to controlling state spending, assuring a responsibly balanced state budget, and finding ways to get better value for taxpayer dollars.

The Senator is noted for his extensive work to secure transportation improvements, community development projects, and job creation.  His push for Act 23 gave Pennsylvania an important economic development tool that has spurred significant commercial projects in his district and across the Commonwealth.

Indicative of his commitment to community values, Armstrong is a stalwart, outspoken opponent of expanding legalized gambling.

The Senator serves as a member of the Banking & Insurance, Finance, Labor & Industry, Rules and Executive Nominations, and Urban Affairs & Housing Committees.

Because of his financial expertise, Armstrong is a long-time member of the Pennsylvania State Employees Retirement Board.

He strongly supports and advocates key community institutions, such as Franklin and Marshall College, Millersville University, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, and Lancaster Bible College.

He is involved in numerous boards and organizations in the 13th District, including Lancaster General Hospital, the Career and Technology Center Foundation, the Willow Street Lions Club, Lancaster Bible College, and the Marine Corps League.

Prior to his election to the State Senate, Armstrong served in the State House of Representatives for eight years.  Before seeking elected office, he worked as an investment advisor.  A Vietnam veteran, he served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps.

The Senator met his wife Marti while attending Westminster College, where he earned a degree in economics.  They have four children:  Gibson C., Erik, Kris, and Erin, and seven grandchildren.
